"Lanfest 2K7"
Without a doubt, the biggest attraction was for Counter Strike: Source, and with such highly skilled and world renown teams such as: Los Angeles Complexity, Chicago Chimera, and San Francisco Optx. This is only naming a few, there were many other excellent teams there to battle for the prizes. I got this prize list off of GotFrag.com, who provided complete coverage of the event. 1st Place - $5,000 + Athlon X2 6000+ AM2 processor, SteelSeries 5Hv2 USB Headset, SteelSeries S&S Gaming Surface, Cooler Master Case 690 Case + Xcraft HD Enclosure 2nd Place - $3,000 + XFX GeForce 8600 GT Fatal1ty 256MB GPU, SteelSeries 6G USB Keyboard, SteelSeries S&S Gaming Surface, Cooler Master Extreme 500W PSU 3rd Place - $2,000 + Cooler Master Elite 330 Case w/300W PSU, SteelSeries QcK+ Gaming Surface, Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 750GB Hard Drive
These prizes were provided by NewEgg and other various
companies. The final turnout of the event was enormous, many people came
to examine NewEgg's finest, and watch the tournament being hosted there.
Complexity lost to Optx in the Upper Final, with a score of 13-10, but Complexity
managed to play them again in the Grand Finals and ended up winning the
tournament, with a score of 13-6. The final was played on two maps, Dust2
and Inferno. The tournament's rules were to play for 24 rounds, but Optx
admitted defeat after the 18th round, after being demolished 6-1 on Inferno.
In 3rd place was New York 3D, the loser of the Upper Final match against
Complexity. 3D put up a good fight, resulting in a final score of 13-10.
It's surprising that 3D managed to grab 3rd place after being demoralized
by a 13-1 loss to Chicago Chimera, but they managed to do it. Overall, the
tournaments and NewEgg products were great, and exciting. If I ever get
another chance to go to a LAN competition like this, I know I'll take it.
