God Is Love

"Steven and Ruth Wilson; Missionaries
“Christ for the City International”

As missionaries my wife and I take very serious the great commission Jesus Christ gave us before ascending into heaven where He commanded us to “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Mathew 28

The Bible teaches us that from the beginning of the creation and fall of man, God began to reach out to mankind demonstrating His unconditional love for us to the point He sent His only son to us making it possible for mankind to choose to receive or reject Gods gift, Jesus Christ. John 3:16 Forgiveness of sin is only through Jesus Christ John 14:6. God came to us from heaven, Jesus Christ, and it is He who tells us today to go and share the gospel, the good news of pardon and release from our sins. Jesus does not teach us about a religion to follow but a person, Jesus Christ. The question is, how do we go to all the world with this good news and convince people of all cultures that Jesus is the only way? The answer is easy but few are those that take serious His command. All who have chosen to follow Him and trust in Him alone are called His children. As His children we are to represent Jesus Christ serving as His ambassadors. Jesus Himself said that the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Jesus commands us to go, just to go where ever He leads us to go, and He will do the rest! He tells us that it is the Holy Spirit that will convince them of the truth and all we need to do is be obedient in our daily walk with Him being as He says, light of the world and salt of the earth.

With all that said, we would like to share with you just what God is doing in directing our lives in sharing the good news.

We have been missionaries serving fulltime outside of the USA since 1983 in two countries, Chile and Costa Rica. For the past three years we have been working in a foreign mission field with Primarily Mexicans in Auburn, Washington, USA! Three years ago we came home on furlough and found that our home church had begun two years previously to pray for the Hispanics in that area. They had already begun ESL classes (English as a second language) but not with very much success. Without us realizing it, God had already begun a great work there because Gods children were praying according to His will and slowly putting a team together. They asked us if we were willing to help out with the English classes, and also if we were willing to stick around longer if people began to follow Jesus. Of course we said yes because that is exactly what God has sent us out to do, but we really didn’t believe that much was going to take place there. Our ESL classes began small, about 10 students and ended the quarter with around 4 students. So we continued to pray together and work together in making posters which we distributed in every Latino super market, laundry mat etc. To our amazement we had an overwhelming response, not just the Hispanics that enrolled but the 50 plus volunteers from our home church who only speak English but willing to teach English. It has now been 3 years since we began ESL classes with an enrollment of 90 students. We will not teach more then 90 students for many reasons but do have a waiting list of which we add to our classes when others drop out.

Now the story doesn’t stop there! We began a Hispanic church! One year after we had begun the ESL classes many of the Hispanics had put their trust in Jesus, so we felt led by God to stay in the USA and Pastor those new believers. Truly the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few! God supplied the workers for reaching out to the Hispanics through the ESL classes but at this moment we are needing more help with our one on one discipleship. After the men and women receive Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior we begin to teach them one on one in their homes using a basic discipleship book called, Nueva Vida en Cristo (New life in Christ.) It’s so exciting to see the changed lives, and continued baptisms! We don’t plan to stick around the Auburn area forever as we know God has another pastor in mind to take over in the future and we will move on to where ever God leads us. It doesn’t matter where we go; just as long as we live in obedience to His will until He takes us home. All of us Christians have a great mission field right where we live. The question is, do we take serious Gods word? Do you read His word for instruction every day? Do you have a personal relationship with Jesus or is it religion that you seek once a week? Do you love God with all your heart, soul and mind? Is He priority in your life? If not, everything else is a waist of time and that is why Jesus said the workers are few. Don’t miss out on the great blessing of this fantastic harvest today right where we live.
