"Desert Rose"

Lost in a windswept land
In a world of shifting sand
A fragile flower stands apart
There on that barren ground
You feel like the one
Trying to serve Him with all your heart

And you wonder, wonder
Can you last much longer
This cloud you are under
Will it cover you

Desert rose (desert rose)
Don't you worry, don't be lonely
Heaven knows, Heaven knows
In a dry and weary land a flower grows
His desert rose

Sometimes holiness
Can seem like emptiness
When you feel the whole world's laughing eyes
But if it's a lonely day
Know you're on the Father's way
He will hear you when you cry

And He will hold you, hold you
Your Father will hold you
He will love you, love you
For the things you do

Desert rose (desert rose)
Don't you worry, don't be lonely
Heaven knows, Heaven knows
In a dry and weary land a flower grows
His desert rose

Desert rose...

I had a brother that loved/loves bands like these from the 80's. He got me interested in this band as well as other. Anyway, a few things happened in my life like my father dying and family going a bit crazy. My mom had heard this song one day and decided to record it on a tape (remember those :) ). She gave it to me with a note about how this song reminded her of me. She started pulling out lyrics from the song and how they were being played out in my life at the time. After many moves and changes in life, including the passing of my mother, I have held onto this memory, even though I have long lost the note she wrote to me. Every time I hear the song I remember all the things she said about me. Some of the things I remember are below, with some new ones added by me.

Lost in a windswept land, In a world of shifting sand...how I was feeling after my dad died, I was lost and feeling as though I didn't belong anywhere, but tried hard to keep strong in my faith.

A fragile flower stands apart...I was that fragile flower, being tossed and thrown, but holding my being, somehow...
There on that barren ground, You feel like the one, Trying to serve Him with all your heart...still holding to my faith even though my grip was weak. I still wanted to do what was right, no matter how much it hurt.

And you wonder, wonder, Can you last much longer, This cloud you are under, Will it cover you...I was constantly fighting what life was throwing at me. Through all of it, good choice or bad, I was holding strong.

Desert rose (desert rose)
Don't you worry, don't be lonely, Heaven knows, Heaven knows, In a dry and weary land a flower grows, His desert rose...only through the strong faith I had was I able to know that I was not alone and God was on my side. He would never let me go, even though it felt many times like he had.

Sometimes holiness, Can seem like emptiness, When you feel the whole world's laughing eyes, But if it's a lonely day, Know you're on the Father's way, He will hear you when you cry...I did this a lot, cry that is, and wonder why me, why does life have to be so unfair? He is still there and hears every cry...and answers, everytime.

And He will hold you, hold you
Your Father will hold you
He will love you, love you
For the things you do...this verse is still very comforting to me. I sometimes stand back when going through a really hard time in life and feel the warmth of God holding me, it truly gives me peace and strength to go on.

Desert rose (desert rose)
Don't you worry, don't be lonely...still learning this one, but getting better...
Heaven knows, Heaven knows
In a dry and weary land a flower grows
His desert rose...I am his...That is truly amazing to me. :) I hope this will bring hope to some one else going through rough times in life. The lyrics are powerful even if you don't like the song. Personally both are AWESOME!!!

The band has since split and moved on, just like the 80's. I found this website that keeps you up to date on all the band members throughout the years as well as their music history for all interested in more of this band.
